WAXING FAQ

HOW DO I BENEFIT FROM WAXING?

When performed at every four to six weeks, waxing reduces hair growth. While shaving crops the hair at the skin’s surface, waxing pulls it out by the root- so it grows back softer, finer, and thinner. Waxing is great for those who are tired of the hassle of shaving several times per week. The more you wax, the less hair grows back.

HOW LONG OR SHORT SHOULD MY HAIR BE FOR WAXING?

To get the best results, your hair should be at least ¼” long. This takes the average person 2 to 3 weeks without shaving to achieve the proper length.

IS THERE ANYTHING I SHOULD DO TO PREPARE FOR WAXING SO I AM MORE COMFORTABLE?

I often recommend taking ibuprofen at least 20 minutes before your waxing service, as long as this does not contradict what your doctor has told you. If you are a female client, you should avoid getting waxed a week before and after your cycle, as you are more likely to be sensitive.
Do not consume caffeine and alcohol before your appointment as these can increase the tenderness and redness experienced after. Pregnancy also increases sensitivity.

DOES IT HURT?

There is some discomfort involved, however, most people find it quite tolerable. I work quickly and use quality products to minimize any pain. After the first wax, as long as you do not shave between services, you’ll find the second and following waxes to be more comfortable.

HOW LONG DOES WAXING LAST?

If you have been shaving, there may be a transition period. Waxing generally requires 2-3 consistent waxes at a 4 to 6 week intervals to achieve optimal results. Optimal results include multiple weeks of hairlessness, hair coming in more softly, and reduction in hair growth.

CAN I SHAVE BETWEEN WAXING APPOINTMENTS?

No. Please do not shave between waxing appointments! It disrupts the hair growth cycle and undoes all the benefits of waxing.

WILL WAXING MAKE MY HAIR GROW BACK DARKER/STRONGER/THICKER?

Definitely not. When hair is shaved, it is cut off at the thick part of the hair, which is why you can feel stubble the next day. A properly waxed hair is removed from the root, and when the hair starts to grow back it is a new hair, very fine at the tip, so no stubble. Waxing does not cause you to grow hair quicker, coarser, or darker. In fact, if you become a regular waxer, you will notice that your hair will become quite sparse and not as coarse.

HOW LONG WILL MY SKIN STAY RED?

For most people, it takes up to 1/2 hour for any redness to subside.

WILL I GET INGROWN HAIRS?

It is possible. Waxing removes the entire hair, root and all, from the follicle. Your skin naturally hardens and thickens over the area that was waxed so it is important to keep that area clean and gently exfoliated. I recommend using exfoliating gloves 3 times a week in conjunction with moisturizing the area daily.
